Main Site Development

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

Okay, I am going to be working on the PokeProject main website.  I need to get the layout completed first.  So what I will do is gather all the plans I have made, add them to the main index page and test them.  When I have added all the extras I would like to add, I will then make sure they are all valid XHTML, and CSS.

Then that means the layout is completed.  I will then start working on the “PokeProject” category web pages.  There are about ten to twelve of these to make.  Hopefully they will not take to long to finish.  Once I have done these, I am going to upload all the Inferno and Hydro pages.  I will add the layout to all pages, and then I will start gathering the Pokemon Inferno and Hydro work.

Obviously I cannot add every single detail.  As we are still creating the game, however I will add all materials that we have got.  This should take a while to add all the Inferno and Hydro pages.  However whilst doing the “PokeProject” category web pages, I will also set up MOD rewrite.  Which means we will have pretty web URLs.  They will be like;

www.pokeproject.net/contact/

Instead of looking like;

www.pokeproject.net/contact.php

I will also add a 404 page not found page, so if someone mistypes a URL.  They will be directed to the main page, that way we look more professional rather then looking uncompleted.  Anyways I want the “PokeProject” category, the layout extras and fixings, and the MOD rewrite/404 all done by next week.  So that gives me seven days to do so, lets see what happens. :)

Demo Maps Completed :)

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

Finally I was able to transfer all the old maps over to my new computer. I have been editing them slightly and I finished of the forest. I have also made the first city map. So that now means we have all maps for the demo version one.

In demo one you will be able to explore; Town One (Brutroot Town) Route x01, Route x29 (righ side from Route x01) , Route Two (Including a Forest) , City One (Pinanna City), Route x03, and Route x04. There is also a small cave in Route x01, but its not very big. I have started to create the information and plans for the demo.

I have also made an old Pokemon list, which will fit in with the new 136 Eura Pokemon to make the Eura Dex. Each area, and everything will be planned. I want the demo to be a close to the final version as possible. The planning will take a couple of days, but once I have done all of this I will start putting it together.

Hopfully I will be able to get the demo done by March 14th, that’s the target date. I am also aranging a new Pokemon into the game. It will be like missingno, a filler Pokemon lets say. Basically I will program all Pokemon into the game, however until there sprites are ready this missingno like sprite will be used.

So you might bump into this Pokemon but for example its meant to be a legendary Pokemon, it will have the stats, move-sets etc of that legendary Pokemon. It will just have this sprite. This is a clever way which will allow us to keep developing the game, even though all the sprites are not ready.

So from now on I will be mainly focusing on making the plans for the game, however I am going to try and keep mapping more and more maps. Any spare time will be used. Also as well as these, I am going to try and sort some Pokemon out for advertising and showcasing purposes. This will include a main sprite, and sugimori style drawing, and a pencil sketch of the Pokemon.

More Mapping + Transfer Update

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

Okay, so since yesterday I have created even more maps for Pokemon Inferno and Pokemon Hydro.  I have added the following to our collection “Route Nine, Route Thirteen, Route Fourteen,  Route Fifteen, and Route Twenty”.  Most of the grass land routes have been completed now.  Just a couple more maps.

I have actually sorted the first twenty nine routes out, and created brief descriptions.  This will make it easier for me, and anyone else who may help do the mapping.  However the way I am moving recently I think I will be able to map all route maps by myself.  I will probably not do all towns and cities myself though, we will have to see.

Also about the maps that are on my laptop, they are being transferred as we speak.  I have asked for advice on transferring maps.  The easiest way is to upload the whole starter kit from my old laptop onto my new PC.  Then I can simply copy and paste all of the maps over like that.  Easy, and after I can delete the other starter kit.  I will let you guys and gals know if I succeed in this. :)

Also I am going to start mapping even more, I am also going to maybe attempt some cities and towns.  If I get city one done, that would mean all maps for the demo version one would be completed.  Also if the right amount of maps are done, I would probably be able to extend demo one and make it larger.  Lets see what happens.

phpBB 3 Progress

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

So I have been playing around with the administrator panel on phpBB 3, it is a lot differnt to phpBB 2. Anyways I think I know how to do everything, and I also know how to add styles etc. So all I need to learn how to do is backup, and restore. As I would like to transfer everything over from the first original forum. I do need to learn how to do this.

As the forums are currently on a free forum providing server, I would have to pay for a backup and then restore it myself. As the forums backup system is in development stages and is yet not completed, there are certain problems. So I need to find out how, and if it would work properly.

I don’t want to mess up and lose everything, and I don’t want to have to keep paying for backup after backup. If worst comes to worst, I will just pay someone to do it. I would really like to do it myself however. I have done the blog, and forum installations myself. If I completely mess up, and lose everything. I am guessing we will just start over again with the forums.

However I will have all project materials safe anyways, so that’s no problem. I also need to install a automatic backup software like I have already said. I will do this before we move, so I know it works etc. Looks like so far, that we will move to phpBB 2 restore there and then upgrade to phpBB 3. Then eventually maybe to vBulletin, lets see what happens.

I Have Been Mapping :)

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

So today I have been mapping more areas for the Eura Region.  On my laptop there are six maps, which are (Town One, Route One, Routes Twenty Nine, Route Two Beginning, Route Two Forest, and Route Two Ending).  Yesterday amongst setting up a phpBB 3 forum, and indeed this blog I managed to create two maps.  They are (Route Three, and Route Four) I also started mapping a very large map which will be a hidden location.  However I best not say much more….

Anyways today I have mapped so far four maps, all completed.  They are as follows (Route Five, Route Seven, Route Twenty Three, and Route Twenty Four).  I am going to do more later.  I am basically covering all grass land maps, which are basically grass, and tress etc.  I need to create the (City One) map, so then all the maps for the demo are completed.  The Forest map I mentioned, needs something little adding.  However that won’t take too long.

I need to figure out how to transfer the saved maps from my laptop to my computer, I will ask around later and I will get everything onto this computer.  I want to try and complete another one, or maybe two maps.  I will just have to see what happens tonight, I will update if I do create any more maps.

Inferno & Hydro Demo V1 – Coming Soon

Monday, January 28th, 2008

So, we have been working on the Pokemon Inferno and Hydro project for a long time now. I have finally decided to pull together a demo for the game. As we are creating a twin set of games, I have decided that all demos will be of Pokemon Inferno. At the end of development we will edit the Pokemon Inferno game, to create Hydro. We will add something secret but very unique to each of the games. Which will make both games as equal to each other.

Anyways the first demo will feature probably not many new Pokemon, this is not because we don’t have enough (We actually have around half done) its that we have not started back sprites or icon sprites. However the characters like the hero (male, and female) and also the two new professor sprites will be completed. I will use older Pokemon from Nintendo to replace the new Pokemon. For version two all Pokemon in the demo areas will be our new Eura Pokemon.

I will however add the “Maggot” line of Pokemon, they will be in the forest which will be featured in the demo V1. Anyways, the demo version one will have the starting town, route one, route twenty nine, route two, and city one. This will be a total of estimated game play of one hour, and more if you wish to catch all added Pokemon. There will be one gym, and all features such as Pokedex, battle system, item system, poke-gear, etc will be in the game an working.

As I have lots to do with the project, website, forums, and the blog. I am not going to rush the process. However I would like to get the demo done between February 29th to March 14th. From here bug testing will be made, and the obviously further development. I will report when more information on the demo is planned, and will update on progress. Maps are nearly done by the way for demo V1.

phpBB 3 Here We Come

Monday, January 28th, 2008

Okay, so I have just withing the last hour I would say have downloaded phpBB 3. I then set up phpBB 3 onto the server. It is successfully on the pokeproject.net domain now, I am moving faster then planned. I am going to have to learn a lot however before I can backup and move the database over. I will get used to the administration panel, and when I know how to use it properly I will then purchase a backup.

To start we are going to have to use a free or the default template on phpBB 3, however this should be no problem. I also need to install a backup sender, which will backup the database every X hours/days and will email me the download. This means if we get hacked, or the hosting goes boom. We will be able to restore everything quickly and easily, I will not move until this is up and working.

As for funds, phpBB pay be free. The backup from ForumUp is not. I have the money in cash, and I will have it transferred into PayPal so that is no problem. Also I am thinking if I should move and buy a new hosting plan for PokeProject. So it as its own separate plan. That way it will be easier for us, and I will be able to maintain the web site, forums, and blog.

Anyways I will start mastering the admin panel of phpBB 3, hopfully I will learn very fast and will be able to get everything done as soon as possible. I will keep you guys and gals updated.

PokeProject Blog Launched

Monday, January 28th, 2008

Well, for a long time I have been talking about the future of PokeProject. Finally I have got the main web site layout up and working. Now I have also added the wordpress blog, and guess what I managed to achieve this myself. Well from now one, big things will be happening to PokeProject. I will now be working daily on the website, forums, and blog to get it complete. I will also be spending time on the project Pokemon Inferno and Hydro also itself. As you already know, I am no good at spriting. However I am good at making all plans, descriptions, etc. I have also started mapping again. So far I have now made quite a few maps. I will work on getting these added as soon as possible.

I need to get the “404″ error page added, and I also need to learn MOD rewrite so that the web site, forums, and blog can all have better more remembering Internet URLs. Once I have done this, I will work on adding more features to the main web site layout. From there I will be adding the pages, and more important content. I need to get all the general and Inferno and Hydro pages up and ready first. From there I will be able to direct the whole Inferno and Hydro project a lot better once again. Then we will be able to start rapid progress towards the project.

As well as this, this blog in-fact as a matching layout. However I feel it needs edits, so I will get them finished as soon as possible. Then we will have a matching blog layout, to the main web site. The next steps from here would to install phpBB 3, I have decided to use phpBB untill I have more stable funds for vBulletin. I have been waiting so long for phpBB 3 forums anyways, so I finally get to test them. I will also have a phpBB forum skin created that matchs the web site, and blog layout. So the whole network will then match eachother. These are the plans in brief, I will announce all updates here at the blog. I will also be adding the updates soon which will feature all updates that are made on the web site, forums, and the blog. Thanks for reading, and welcome to PokeProject blog.
